Geddy’s Trainable!

Posted by Kathy Torrence on Oct 11, 2007 in Our Goldendoodle Puppies

Big news in our family – Geddy learned to sit and lay down!

Just look…Geddy….SIT!

Geddy…DOWN!

Geddy Down

Hey – this is real progress from a dog that wouldn’t even come to us a few weeks ago! 🙂

And he LOVES camping…look at these two cuties waiting at the door of the camper…

Dogs at the door-2

Although…apparently, Geddy is not too fond of the car.  On the way to Lake-In-Wood last weekend, he drooled like crazy the whole way up and back.  And I mean RIVERS of drool – soaked the whole dog bed in the back of the truck.

This weekend, we thought he would do better in the middle seat – and he did – no drool.  Except…just as we pulled into the campground entrance, he threw up right on Matt’s lap!

So on the way home, we took the suggestion of another camper and gave him half of a Dramamine tablet before we left.  Again – he did great – no drool.  Except…just as predicted, he threw up right in Matt’s lap again just as we entered Mullica Hill (this time, Matt’s lap was protected with a large towel).

Any other suggestions for carsick dogs?

Doggy Costumes

Posted by Kathy Torrence on Oct 1, 2007 in Our Goldendoodle Puppies

I couldn’t help myself – Target had dog costumes on sale and they were so stinkin’ cute – I had to get one for Daisy and Geddy!

Here’s Daisy as a ladybug:

It was tough to tuck all that fur in the costume (a doggie size large!)!  You’ll notice Geddy laughing at her in the background until I put his costume on too:

Meet Geddy, the bumblebee!

Here they both are, getting some treats for being so patient:

Isn’t this why we have pets in the first place?  I still can’t stop laughing…

Puppy Update

Posted by Kathy Torrence on Sep 17, 2007 in Our Goldendoodle Puppies

Just a quick update on our new family member, Geddy.

He’s still a little shy, but is doing much better.  He is VERY generous with kisses and loved to play with Daisy and with the kids.  He is also very fond of cuddling in bed with me – I love having two dogs to snuggle with!

Here are some new photos of our newest baby…

And here are Geddy, Daisy and Bella together – hard to get them to sit still for a photo…

Picture 002

Of course, Geddy IS still a puppy and isn’t always as sweet as he looks…I had my book club over on Tuesday night and he proceeded to leave a very foul-smelling gift right on the living room floor in front of everyone…sigh…but isn’t he cute anyway? 😉

Meet Geddy!

Posted by Kathy Torrence on Sep 4, 2007 in Our Goldendoodle Puppies

Well…the crazy Torrences did it – we got another goldendoodle puppy!  His name is Geddy and he is about 4 1/2 months old.  Yesterday was a LONG day – we were in the car for more than seven hours!

Geddy

Poor thing – because he is an older puppy, he’s REALLY timid and shy.  We just picked him up yesterday, so I’m sure he’ll be okay in a few days, but for now, he spends most of his time hiding from us…

Geddy hiding

He doesn’t seem to be very well socialized around people and pretty much runs whenever we approach him, but I’m sure he’ll adjust quickly to his new home.

He does LOVE Daisy and they have been playing together quite nicely outside.  Although Daisy is treating him very much like the big sister she is – he follows her everywhere and she looks at him sometimes like, “Get lost, little guy!”.  But for the most part, she seems glad to have another dog to play with.

Side note – I just missed such a CUTE photo!  The two dogs were cuddled up together sleeping and my darned camera ran out of batteries!!!!  But I’m sure there will be lots of other cute moments, right?

And interestingly enough, Geddy is actually from the same litter as Bella.  And Geddy, Bella and Daisy all share the same father, too.

Wish us luck with our new little guy!

Have The Torrences Gone Crazy?!?!?

Posted by Kathy Torrence on Sep 2, 2007 in Our Goldendoodle Puppies

Kind of a rhetorical question, I guess – I KNOW we’re crazy!

Why this time, you ask?  Because we’re thinking of getting another goldendoodle puppy, that’s why!  Let me explain…

We’ve been puppy-sitting Andrew’s other dog, Bella, all week while her family is on vacation.  Bella is also a goldendoodle just a few months younger than Daisy.

They are SO cute playing together!  They’re like their own little pack – they eat together, sleep together, go outside together – and there’s nothing like two furry creatures climbing into bed with you in the morning, either (and I don’t mean my children).

I took a few photos of the two dogs together…

Bella and Daisy - good

Bella and Daisy sleeping

So anyway…Mike and I started talking about how we might like to get another puppy…and before I knew it, he was on the Internet and put a deposit down on another little doodle!  This one’s a boy and is about 4 months old – we found him at the same kennel where we bought Daisy.

And as of right now, we’re scheduled to pick him up on Labor Day…

So are we crazy or what?

Recovering From My Yard Sale

Posted by Kathy Torrence on Sep 2, 2007 in Crafts, Our Goldendoodle Puppies, Yardsale Finds

My ‘crafty’ yard sale was great – I made over $900!  Surprisingly, the biggest sellers (quantity-wise, not price-wise) were my card samples.  I started with 6 plastic boxes of cards – probably about 500 cards in all – and sold every single one of them!  Between the cards, retired stamp sets and the other items I sold, I finally have a little more space in my craft room again.

But the yard sale was a TON of work and both days were EXTREMELY hot and VERY humid.  It took me a whole day just to recover from near heat exhaustion from hauling things out to the yard and back and sitting out in the sun all day.

Next I have to get ready for a workshop scheduled for this Wednesday.  And it’s sure going to be an interesting week with TWO goldendoodle puppies running around.  We’re watching Bella while Andrew is at the shore with his dad and step-mom.  And so far, the dogs are running around like crazy, playing with each other like two bulls in a china shop.  It’s so cute to watch, though – and I’m sure as the week goes on, they’ll get used to each other and calm down – at least a little bit, anyway.

Oh – and I found out this week that I’m going to be a make-and-take helper at the Stampin’ Up! Regional Seminar in Philadelphia in September!  I’m excited about that – you know how I love to be involved in things (being a control-freak and all).

Camping at Frontier Town

Posted by Kathy Torrence on Aug 21, 2007 in Family Stuff, Our Goldendoodle Puppies

We spent a few days last week camping in Ocean City, Maryland at our favorite campground, Frontier Town. We just love it there – it’s right on the bay, has its own western theme park, golf course, restaurant, ice cream parlor and even a waterpark that’s free for campers! Do you think Emily is enjoying herself at the waterpark?

Since the campground is right on the bay, there is a nice breeze that keeps it cool and keeps the bugs away. Of course, sometimes the breeze is a little too strong as you can tell by Daisy’s fur…

daisy-in-the-wind.JPG

daisy-in-the-wind-2.JPG

I can’t help but laugh out loud every time I see those photos!

The kids also did a little bit of fishing at the campground…

And we took some time to just enjoy the scenery too…

matt-and-andrew-2.JPG

Daisy also did a little exploring in the water.

daisy-exploring-the-water.JPG

It looks SO funny when just the bottoms of her paws get wet! It looks almost like Chinese footbinding…

daisy-wet-paws.JPG

We also took a ride to the beach at Assateague Island, just five minutes away from the campground. It’s home to the famous wild ponies that roam the island.

Here’s one we saw on the way in to the park:

wild-pony-close-up.JPG

We were in the car and Daisy was barking like crazy at that pony!

And when we left the beach, there was another pony by our truck in the parking lot:

andrew-by-the-pony.JPG

pony-in-the-parking-lot-2.JPG

How would you explain THAT to your car insurance company?

We had a wonderful time on the beach – we stayed for almost five hours! It was so nice – the entire beach was practically empty and we let Daisy run in the surf off of her leash. Well…once she got used to the water, that is. She wasn’t so sure at first…

semi-wet-doodle.JPG

Eventually, she got used to it and had a great time! We also met a nice couple who had a golden retriever puppy about the same age as Daisy. The dogs played together for a LONG time – until they were both exhausted!

It was another great trip – in fact, before we left the campground, we made reservations again for next year!

Camping at Knoebels With "Daisy The Wonderdog"

Posted by Kathy Torrence on Aug 5, 2007 in Family Stuff, Our Goldendoodle Puppies

We just returned from our latest camping adventure at Knoebels, a wonderful, family amusement park in Elysburg, PA.

At Knoebels-2

It’s not like other amusement parks such as Six Flags, Busch Gardens or Disneyworld – there is no admission price for the park.  Instead of paying one price, you pay per ride – and the prices are SO reasonable!  Mike insisted that we purchase $100 worth of tickets (they discounted them 15%) and at the end of three days at the park, we had only used a little less than half that amount of the tickets – that’s with all five of us riding for three days! We also ate dinner at the park for $14 – again, for all FIVE of us!  It’s so nice to feel like you got your money’s worth on a trip.

Emily on a ride

Knoebels also has two campgrounds associated with it – we stayed at Lake Glory.  It was a nice campground, but it didn’t have activities, a pool or swimming lake like others at which we’ve stayed.  The real attraction is just Knoebels itself.

But the amusement park does have a large pool and play area where we swam for most of the days we were there (it was SO hot!).  There was also a small kids water area where Emily spent most of her time.  I was content to just hang out by the pool and read my latest book (more about that in my Books I’m Reading category).

And the best part about Knoebels was that they allow dogs inside the amusement park (not the pool, but anywhere in the rest of the park) – how great is that?  You don’t have to leave your dog inside your camper while the rest of your family is having fun!

Andrew and Daisy in the camper

Mike and Daisy

Now of course, Daisy took full advantage of this fact and quickly built her own following.  It was like traveling with a rock star or…Tom Cruise!  EVERYONE had to stop and pet her – and she just ate it up.  By the end of the trip, my kids were reciting the answers to all the questions we would get…it always went something like this…

“Your dog is SO cute!  Can I pet her?”

Sure.

“What kind of dog IS she?”

A goldendoodle.

“A golden-WHAT?  What is a goldendoodle?”

A mix between a golden retriever and standard poodle.

“How old is she?”

Six months old.

“Wow!  She’s just a puppy!  How big will she get?”

About 60-65 pounds.

“Does she shed?”

No.

“Is she easy to train?”

Yes, very.

At this point, the conversation would continue between Daisy and her admirer (as if we were no longer there at all).

Here she is, getting ready to work a crowd by one of the roller coasters:

And waiting for Mike and Emily on the log flume ride:

Daisy, Andrew and Matt waiting by the flume

She LOVED getting so much attention…but after a while, it was difficult to get around or even just to leave the park!  Now I can understand how celebrities feel!  Well…sort of, anyway.

We had several people take Daisy’s photo and one woman walked up to us in a crowd and said loudly, “Is this DAISY?!?!”.  Apparently, she had heard all the hype from the campground and was searching for her in the park.

Hmmm…maybe we should start charging for personal appearances.  Or get Daisy her OWN blog…

A New Puppy in the Family

Posted by Kathy Torrence on Jul 29, 2007 in Our Goldendoodle Puppies

No…I didn’t get another puppy (although I have considered it 🙂 )! Andrew’s dad and stepmom did! Last Thursday, they went to Berlin View Kennels (same place we got Daisy) and picked up their very own goldendoodle, Bella! Bella is just 14 weeks old and is the same golden color as Daisy.  Bella is so cute – we had a little puppy playdate this weekend with her, Daisy and my neighbor Chris’ basset hound, Dudley.

And speaking of Miss Daisy, this week she graduated from Intermediate Puppy Class – yeah, Daisy!!!!

Daisy will start the advanced training class in September and will hopefully pass the Canine Good Citizen test at the end of the class.
